proAV was asked to deliver a future-proof audio visual solution for the Vet School’s three buildings (the Main Academic Veterinary School of Medicine, the Veterinary Clinical Skills Centre and the Veterinary Pathology Centre) that house teaching rooms, laboratories, mock surgery areas, lecture theatres, a divisible teaching lab, communal spaces, meeting rooms and an AV room.

Technologies include 3D and 2D projection, large format display and interactive display systems, 3D visualiser systems to stream for viewing and recording procedure teaching demonstrations, a digital signage system, professional audio, IPTV to broadcast Vet School TV channels showing feeds from in-room cameras, induction loop, presentation systems and control system featuring touch panel controls.

Central to the success of this project was proAV’s ability to deliver a forward-thinking scheme that would accommodate future technological advances, support the University’s reputation as a centre of excellence with world-class teaching resources as well as offering ROI opportunities for extended use of the new facilities.

The project encompassed the entire School of Veterinary Medicine facility and features the following technologies:

• 30 small group teaching rooms/pods with displays, speakers, workstations and control panels
• A Clinical Skills laboratory with 3D and 2D displays to present streamed content from connected devices, 3D cameras to stream content out to the network/IPTV distribution, flexible 2D cameras, microphones and controls
• Biomechanical lab with interactive displays with cameras and mics to capture and stream content, wall mounted controls
• Mock Surgery area, including flyer and consultant room with display, digital signage, cameras and mics to capture interactions and stream content and control via control panels
• Large and medium-sized lecture theatres with raked seating, featuring control panel for system control, PC with comfort monitor, desktop visualisers, professional audio, 3D projection and streaming of events and Vet School TV channels via IPTV, phased array induction loop for the hard of hearing with supporting equipment housed in dedicated control room
• Communal areas, including stairwells and foyers with digital signage system displaying tailored content and timetable information and corridors with large format 3D displays streaming cameras in lab
• Small meeting rooms with LCD display, speakers, supported workstation and control panel
• Large meeting rooms with projection and screen or single display, supported workstation, video camera and mic for use with audio and video conferencing functionality
• Divisible teaching lab with identical functionality, including display screens, projection, line audio, system control via control panels
• Two labs with overhead, enclosed 3D cameras, boundary mics and wireless headset mics
• Lab for anatomy teaching with 3D display screens control via central control panel interface to display streamed content, 3D overhead camera to connect to local screens and stream content to network, portable camera, both feeding into IPTV encoder via video matrix for viewing in other rooms
• Large teaching room with projector and electronic screen, teaching desk with supported workstation and monitor, control panel, visualiser and phone, distributed audio system and mics
