Bede House, Education Transformation
De Montfort University (DMU) were looking for an AV partner to support them through a 3 year framework which would ultimately see them upgrading and maintaining their audio visual network across the campus as part of a significant investment, over £136 million, to develop the site into a truly inspiring place to educate and study.
In a recent development phase DMU decided to utilise a building, Bede House, close to the main campus, for their expansion needs including 14 timetabled classrooms and breakout spaces for students and further staff offices and meeting rooms.
DMU wanted to engage students more directly by providing the space and tools for them to work more collaboratively together and create engaging teaching experiences in the classroom and out. Flexibility in the choice of technology was key to proAV enabling DMU to maximise space and bring as many students into the building as possible.
"This project has created a new collaborative way of working for our end users at DMU and the AV has aided a change in working practices, specifically around being less reliant on printed material. The team of engineers from proAV proved reliable as always. They are familiar with the standard we expect at DMU and worked well with the building contractors and other trades on-site to deliver the installs on-time."

The development has encouraged a way of working at the University that drives down paper use and creates the space to support video conferencing, which reduces down time and increases productivity of both students and staff.
- Flexible teaching space which can cover a multitude of teaching angles
- Wireless technology enables collaborative working between students
- Video conferencing enabled meeting rooms to link staff to other parts of the campus quickly and easily
- Collaborative displays provide huddle spaces for group work and idea sharing
Our solution
Every classroom was designed to provide large display areas using Panasonic projectors with additional Panasonic displays working as repeater screens to enable flexible teaching styles. For simple interoperability Crestron DigitalMedia switching, distribution and control manages the rooms seamlessly whilst Mersive Solstice Pods provide a platform with a focus on collaboration. proAV’s expertise in audio distribution ensures any presentation can be heard anywhere in the room with control housed in custom built Avenue lecterns with Wolfvision vSolution cameras for ‘live’ imaging during presentations.
By including the breakout spaces in the design DMU are able to maximise their space usage and provide students with somewhere they can prepare for lectures or collaborate together. This area could also be used as an information zone, digitally communicating University content to students through a Onelan digital signage solu...
